PANIC EN LA PLAYA
2024 RECAP
Widespread Panic fans came from all over to dance for four nights to their favorite band. We are so thankful to all the amazing guests from this event for their incredible support this year! With the help from so many people we were able to raise over $78,000 through the charity auction, golf tournament with Sunny Ortiz and “Name that Tune Bingo” hosted by Cosmic Country.
We thank everyone who packed school supplies in their suitcases. It feels so good to visit a school for a Day of Service and it is an added bonus to leave behind school supplies.
MIKE'S AMAZING PRESENTS:
DAY OF SERVICE & COMMUNITY CONNECTION
EVENT DAY 3 I Tuesday, April 16th @ 9:00am - 3:00pm
The day of service is more than just work - It is a cultural connection day. This is also a time to spend with the local community. This year we went to the Luis Donaldo Elementary school in Puerto Aventuras. We were greeted by the school kids presenting us with a choreographed dance performance. Our day consisted of finishing up painting projects including refinishing faded pavement games, building a new recycled plastic eco-brick bench and cleaning the school grounds.
After a good day's work we all ate a glorious lunch while listening to the sounds of the local band Galactica Deep Roots. With our hearts and bellies full and music in our ears, the Day of Service was once again a wild success!! And thanks again to Mike’s Amazing for sponsoring our day of service.
CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT
Another classic Positive Legacy Classic. Both the Sean Scott, John Armstrong, Jody Winans and John Wise group and the Alan Salus, Chris Poulos, Kyle Wood and Kristie Wood group were at -9 on the 18th tee. Alan’s group birdied, Scott’s eagled. Exciting stuff. Velika Brown and Evan Elder danced closest to the pin on holes 8 and 17. Thanks to John Tyson and Josh Timmermans for the prizes and to Sunny (WP), Will (Cosmic Country) and Smiley (Main Squeeze) for representing the bands. Together we raised $4,500 for Positive Legacy and about $80 for the dude that was picking our “lost” balls out of the jungle and selling them back to us.
CHARITY AUCTION
Our onsite Charity Auction at Panic en la Playa Doce was the highest grossing event auction of our season, across nine total events. The live auction alone raised $25,000 and the overall auction total exceeded $62,000 so a big shout out to all who donated and supported! These funds are used to benefit the local communities in Mexico and beyond. The support from Widespread Panic, band management, support acts, and of course the fans, are critical to our continued fundraising success.
ACTIVITES
Poolside bingo with Daniel Donato, Will Clark, Will McGee, and Nathan Aronowitz from Cosmic Country was a complete blast!. The band curated a killer playlist of songs and if the song title was on your bingo card, you got to mark off the square. The hosts were witty and kept the crowd laughing and dancing and we were even treated to an acapella verse from the song Barbara Ann. Thank you to all who played and helped us raise over $2300. Big ups to the winners, to Cloud 9 and Cosmic Country for hosting the event!
And this year we asked fans to bring a favorite or old tee-shirts along to turn into tote bags. It was fun to see all the different size bags that were created and to hear the stories behind some of the shirts people brought along. Some people took it up a notch and got super crafty with paint markers, adding extra pizazz to their bag. Thanks to all for joining us for our sustainable craft!
2023 RECAP
We busted it BIG at this year’s Panic En La Playa!
We had a great round on the "Ball Eater" that is the Hard Rock Golf Course for the Positive Legacy Classic. Thanks to Sunny Ortiz for hosting, Jon Tyson for the slick prizes, Tim Hemphill for the trophies (that went to the winners at ten under) and the thirty-four players who gripped it and ripped it for a good cause.
We took a very enthusiastic Panic crew to an elementary school in Playa del Carmen where we painted an amazing animal mural inside the grounds with a lovely group of students. Lots of great work was done along with our partners from the Fundación RCD, then we enjoyed a delicious lunch and played some soccer with the students before heading back to the resort.
Poolside BINGO was a complete hit! Thank you to everyone who played a card and Grateful Shred for the calls and insightful trivia along the way. Congratulations to the bingo and four-corner winners. Always a good time and a great warm up for a Beach Set.
And last, but certainly not least, this year's auction was a roaring success, helping us raise over $70K to put towards our local environmental and humanitarian service projects. Thank you to all the bidders and donors and a special thanks to Jimmy Herring for donating the PRS guitar he has been playing on stage for the past eight years. From Uno to Once, the Good People of PELP never cease to amaze with their love and support of all things Positive Legacy. We are grateful and look forward to running it back at Doce!
2022 RECAP
It’s now been a decade of Good People doing good things at Panic en la Playa and that tradition continues. At Uno we raised enough cash to plant some trees to shade a local school. At Diez we raised enough to BUILD a school with the auction yielding a record-setting $82,240! The fans' kindness was also on full display at Sunny’s golf outing, and at Bingo with Southern Avenue. A special thanks to everyone who came out to the Day of Service sponsored by Mike's Amazing. Together we jam-packed over three hundred food bags (made from upcycled Hard Rock Hotel uniforms) that will stock the pantries of our local neighbors in need. The Good People of Panic fuel Positive Legacy’s mission and it’s tough to overstate the cumulative impact they've had on this community over the years.
