The Rex Foundation Supports Boulder Dead & Co Action Day

Dead & Company Action Day

In partnership with Positive Legacy and Conscious Alliance

Funded by a generous grant from the Rex Foundation

July 14, 2018  from 10:30am to 1:30pm , Location TBA

We are very grateful to the Rex Foundation for their generous grant of $3,500 to Positive Legacy to host an Action Day in Boulder, CO on July 14th on behalf of Dead & Company. The funds will be used on ingredients, operating costs and marketing efforts so that a team of volunteers can assemble 2000 nutritious dried soup meals for distribution to multiple food pantries in Boulder County, CO and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

In partnership with Conscious Alliance and Boulder-based Chef and Nutritionist, Lisa Turner, two recipes were created for the explicit purpose of delivering complete healthy meals to people in need (via food pantries). The meals are hearty soups that are high in protein, iron, and vitamins A and C. The soups contain dried ingredients that make for an easy to transport product with a long-shelf life for food banks and require minimal cooking by the receiving families (boil water, add ingredients and cook for 10 minutes). By delivering the healthiest food possible to food banks and stimulating cooking in the kitchen that even busy families can handle, Conscious Alliance makes a bigger impact on increasing the long-term health and food security for those in need.

For 1 in 6 Americans, hunger is a reality. They don’t always know where they will find their next mean and are unable to consistently access nutritious and adequate amounts of food necessary for a healthy life.  The goal for the Action Day on July 14th is to recruit approximately 40 Dead & Company fans to volunteer 3 hours of their time to work assembly line fashion to make 2,000 nutritious dried soup meals. In assembly lines the soups are packaged quickly and easily, while allowing space for inspiring and insightful conversations to take place on the nature of food insecurity in the US. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, snacks, coffee and good karma credit before heading off to the Dead & Company show at Folsom Field.  It’s truly as simple as that!
